Description
Built and inaugurated in 1967, the Rifugio Albani replaced the old Capanna Trieste, built years earlier (1924) and still visible near the now inactive mining complex. Dedicated to the illustrious mountaineer, first ascender of the North Face of the Presolana, as well as designer of the first Coca refuge, it is owned by the Bergamo section of the Club Alpino Italiano. It has a capacity of about 70 beds and is open continuously in the summer. The last stop on the Sentiero delle Orobie (Orobie Trail), it is a base for the difficult climbing routes on the north face of the Presolana as well as a transit point for the Passo della Porta via ferrata. Through the Scagnello Pass it connects the Val di Scalve to the Val Seriana Superiore, descending along the wild Valzurio. (taken from the website www.caibergamo.it)
