Introduction

The chapel dedicated to Saint Magdalene of Sorrows, located in Pianas in the municipality of Donnas, in Valle d'Aosta, is an evocative example of mountain religious architecture, immersed in a fascinating natural setting. It stands on a plateau of glacial origin overlooking the central valley, above the village of Vert. Built in 1895, the chapel has been an important spiritual reference point for the local community and, thanks to careful restoration completed in 1989, has been preserved in its original form.

Description

The building is characterised by the simplicity and harmony typical of mountain chapels. Its sober lines fit perfectly into the surrounding landscape, offering an atmosphere of recollection and serenity. The interior, although modest, is enriched with sacred decorations reflecting the community's devotion to St Magdalene, a figure deeply venerated for her connection with human pain and compassion.
One of the chapel's special features is its panoramic position, which offers visitors a spectacular view of the central valley. The plateau on which it is built, of glacial origin, adds a geological element of interest, making a visit to the site not only a spiritual experience but also an opportunity to appreciate the natural and historical richness of the region.
The chapel, with its aura of tranquillity and history, is a meeting point for the local community during religious celebrations, but also a place that invites personal reflection. Its presence in the mountain landscape of Donnas bears witness to the deep connection between faith and nature, offering visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in an atmosphere that combines spirituality and scenic beauty.
