Introduction
The Caldarini Bivouac, located at an altitude of 2,486 metres in Val Cantone di Dosdè, above Val Viola, is a spartan but fascinating structure, immersed in one of the most evocative settings of the Rhaetian Alps. Inaugurated in 1970, it is dedicated to the memory of Angelo and Seconda Caldarini. The bivouac consists of a red metal sheet construction, able to offer shelter to 9 people thanks to the presence of beds with mattresses and blankets. Inside there is also a table, two benches, three stools and some tableware, all the essentials to ensure a comfortable stop for hikers.
Description
Situated on a rocky plateau, at the foot of the northern ridge of the Cima Settentrionale di Lago Spalmo, the bivouac offers a breathtaking view of the valley below and of the majestic Corno Dosdè (3,233 metres), which dominates the landscape. From here, it is also possible to see the Rifugio Federico in the distance, as well as being surrounded by the imposing Cima di Lago Spalmo (3,291 metres) and Sasso di Conca (3,150 metres), whose icy walls lend a wild aura to the place.
The Caldarini bivouac is owned by the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) of Desio and is a valuable reference point for mountaineers and hikers venturing into this part of the Valtellina. Access is challenging but rewarding, with routes winding through wild valleys and grassy slopes, making it a popular destination for those wishing to immerse themselves in the unspoilt nature of the Alps.
