Access

Allein is a commune located in Valle d'Aosta, Italy, and to reach it you can follow different transport options depending on your starting position. Here are some common options:

By car: If travelling by car, you can reach Allein via the road network. From the nearest town, Aosta, you can take the regional road SR40 in a north-easterly direction, which will take you directly to Allein. Be sure to consult a map or navigator to plan the best route and take into account road conditions, especially in winter.

By bus: Aosta Valley has public transport services, including buses that connect the various municipalities in the region. You can check bus timetables and routes at the Aosta bus station or by consulting the websites of local public transport companies. Keep in mind that there may be fewer public transport options than by car.

Before setting off, I recommend checking the available timetables and transport options according to your departure location and travel preferences.

Introduction

A small agricultural centre in the middle valley of the Gran San Bernardo, located at about 1,200 metres above sea level. It was never the seat of a castellania in medieval times, but was annexed to the feud of Gignod. Its history is linked to the road from Aosta up to the pass, first of Jupiter Pennin, then of Mont-Joux, and finally of the Great St. Bernard, which already in prehistoric times linked the populations on both sides of the Alps, and in Roman times connected the towns of Augusta Praetoria and Octodurus.

Description

In the hamlet of Villa, an inscription was found that constitutes the oldest evidence of the presence of lepers in Valle d'Aosta (1007). As already mentioned, the focus of the village's economic activity is in the agricultural sector, particularly cattle breeding. One of the peculiarities is the characteristic Carnival, which is in line with that of the other municipalities of the so-called Comba Freida, characterised by the use of particular costumes derived from the uniforms of the Napoleonic army.
