On 27 May 1939, Ernst Grob, Herbert Paidar and Ludwig Schmaderer, members of a German expedition operating in Sikkim, reached the summit of Nepal Peak (7,177 m) on the India-Nepal border for the first time. The expedition had also just completed the ascent of Kirat Chuli (7,365 m), also known as Tent Peak.
