Cima del Carro, along the Vallone del Carro
Access
You take the Valle Orco from Cuorgnè, and climb it past Ceresole. When you reach the hamlet of Chiapili di Sopra, continue on to the entrance of the evident Carro valley, where you can park at the edge of the Nivolet pass road.
Description
Follow the dirt track that enters the Carro valley, initially downhill then flat. As you enter the valley, when it opens up, it is necessary to tackle the first rather steep slope-channel on the left (it is not advisable to climb the central gully).
After this first slope, you come out onto a vast upper plateau, which you cross entirely from left to right, with a long half slope, until you reach a second steep slope that gives access to the glacier. This slope can be climbed directly if the snow is hard, otherwise a series of zig zags should be made to soften the slope.
At the glacier, the slopes soften and the summit is clearly visible in the background. With a free path, you can climb up to the saddle to the right of the summit. Here it is best to remove the poles and continue on foot to overcome the short, steep slope below the final rocks, which can be conquered without difficulty.
Descent on the ascent route, crampons may be useful for the steeper sections.
Objective Danger: Danger of avalanches with unseasoned snow, discharges under rock faces not far from the track
Equipment:Snowshoes, poles, Artva, probe and shovel
