Description
Malga Vallazza is located on the road to Passo Valles - the road connecting Paneveggio with Falcade.
From the Malga (1935m), take path no. 631 towards Lake Juribrutto. The path begins to climb through the forest, at the end of which the gradient decreases and the panorama opens up.
We start climbing again to around 2300m and then begin the descent to the lake (2206m). From here we continue towards the Juribrutto bivouac, which is nothing more than a table with a bench and a canopy!
From there we follow the signs for Cima Bocche. We climb up large, comfortable boulders to the Forcella.
From here, there are two paths for the descent: the 626 towards Lake Bocche and the path on the left that leads to the Val Miniera obelisk, passing through the remains of trenches and war emplacements. This second path must be fairly recent, as it is not marked on maps from a few years ago (it is not on the 2008 Tabacco, but it is marked on the most recent Kompass).
We opted for this option both because we wanted to pass by the obelisk and because the path to Lake Bocche was still hidden by snow :)
The path is always well marked. We arrive at the obelisk erected in 1995 "In perpetual memory of the Italian soldiers who fell on these mountains in defence of the highest values of the fatherland and freedom".
We then continue along a comfortable mule track towards the Val Miniera bivouac, where we arrived just in time before it started raining rather violently.
The bivouac is a small stone structure, with a fireplace and a wooden bench, so it is useful for shelter from the weather, but should only be used to spend the night there in cases of extreme necessity.
From the bivouac we cross the river and continue towards the Malga Juribrutto and from there through the woods back to the Malga Vallazza.
For the complete tour in good weather it will take about 5 hours and 30 minutes. Our times were longer because of snow on part of the path, and a heavy downpour that blocked us in the bivouac for half an hour.
The excursion is nevertheless very interesting: beautiful views, and the possibility of climbing up to the Cima Bocche, passing by the Bocche Lake, and seeing Great War emplacements......an excursion that you can lengthen or shorten as you wish.
