Monte Losetta, from Grange del Rio

Access

Following the Varaita Valley, past Pontechianale, park at Grange del Rio at one of the first hairpin bends of the ascent to Colle dell'Agnello.

Introduction

Beautiful excursion, with no particular difficulty, to a peak that has great panoramic impact and a privileged view of the western slope of Monviso and its neighbouring peaks. The route gives way to crossing the beautiful Vallone di Soustra.

Description

Leaving the car at Grange del Rio on the edge of the bend, follow the well-marked path [U18]. The route through the Soustra valley is pleasant and with a very gentle slope. When you arrive at Grange del Bernard, continue through beautiful meadows and flowers until you cross the Soustra stream, arriving at a junction for the Soustra pass to the left and our route to the right for the Losetta pass (2872m), which is reached with a 20-minute climb. From here, unmarked, take the path to the left that climbs steeply up a wide ridge to the summit. From the summit, on a clear day, the panorama sweeps from the Maritime Alps to the French and Valle d'Aosta Alps. Return along the same route. Alternatively, the Passo della Losetta can be reached from the Vallanta valley starting from the village of Castello, a longer itinerary.
