Introduction

A small commune in the Viù valley, located on a promontory to the left of the Stura river. According to various interpretations, its name somehow recalls a certain remoteness: in fact, some say it derives from the Latin lamiae, i.e. 'place of the witches', while others take it from the word limina, 'border'.

Description

We certainly know that its history was troubled by the floods; in fact, in 1465, Amadeus IX of Savoy relieved the community of taxes for a period of ten years, following the serious damage suffered in August of that year. According to other sources, the original hamlet, built in the meadows known as 'Casali', was entirely washed away.
The existence of a hamlet called Forno testifies to the presence of an ancient foundry, which probably processed the copper and iron extracted in the surrounding area, probably even before the splendid stone bridge dated 1477 was built there.
Still today, the main economic activity in Lemie is farming, supplemented by dairy production.
