Paolo Consiglio is born

On 19 September 1927, Paolo Consiglio was born in Rome. He was a skilled mountaineer and member of the CAI, responsible for significant ascents and the opening of new rock routes on the Gran Sasso and in the Dolomites. He took part in two major expeditions outside Europe, both of which were successfully completed on Saraghrar Peak (7,349 m) and Lal Qilà (6,349 m).  The CAI’s National Mountaineering School in Rome is named after him, as is an award presented by the CAAI to a non-European expedition that has carried out significant exploratory work in the alpine style (light expeditions), whilst respecting the environment and under the patronage of the CAI.
