On 24 October 1955, three members of a Swiss expedition – Raymond Lambert, Claude Kogan and Eric Gauchat – reached the summit of Yangra Kangri, or Ganesh I (7,422 m), for the first time. The ascent also saw a woman reach the summit – the accomplished mountaineer Claude Kogan – which was quite unusual for the time. During the descent, a tragic accident claimed the life of Eric Gauchat.
