On 1 February 1939, Ugo Manera was born in Turin. He was a skilled Piedmontese mountaineer and a member of the CAI’s academic body, known for several significant first ascents in the Gran Paradiso Group and the Mont Blanc Massif. He is the author of the autobiographical book Pan e Pera (2003) and has contributed to a number of specialist magazines such as *La rivista della Montagna* and *Alp*.
